All in, call center employees spent a\u00a0significant\u00a0amount of time\u00a0starting\u00a0up\u00a0their computers and launching necessary programs before they were able to enter the\u00a0company\u2019s\u00a0timekeeping system.\u00a0The courts ultimately\u00a0ruled\u00a0that pre-shift tasks were &#8220;integral and indispensable&#8221; to call center employees&#8217; jobs,\u00a0and that although\u00a0the time spent\u00a0on it was small,\u00a0they\u00a0did in fact\u00a0add up.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is not uncommon for employees to spend significant amount of time starting up\u00a0and shutting down\u00a0work stations as well as\u00a0necessary programs in order to complete their\u00a0daily job functions.\u00a0Oftentimes,\u00a0companies do not pay their\u00a0employees\u00a0for this time,\u00a0however,\u00a0under federal and state labor laws, this time should be compensable.
