Eric J. Gitig

Mr. Gitig represents clients in single-plaintiff, collective and class action lawsuits for failure to pay proper wages, overtime and commissions. He also represents individuals in a wide variety of labor and employment related litigation, including claims of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful discharge, failure to accommodate disabilities, family and medical leave violations, and breach of contract.

Prior to joining Fitapelli & Schaffer, LLP, Mr. Gitig gained valuable experience while participating in year-long internships with the New York City Mayor’s Office of Labor Relations and the U.S. Department of Labor, where he developed a strong background in employment litigation as an advocate for workers’ rights while enforcing federal and state minimum wage and overtime laws. Mr. Gitig also has over ten years of teaching experience in Jewish Studies and law school admissions testing.

Mr. Gitig received his undergraduate degree in History, with a minor in Jewish Studies, from the University of California Los Angeles. He earned his juris doctor at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in New York City, where he was a Dean’s Scholarship recipient. There he was also a member of the Labor & Employment Law and Mediation clinical programs, and a finalist in the Regional American Bar Association Negotiation Competition. He is licensed to practice law in New York State and the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. Mr. Gitig is a member of the American Bar Association, the American Bar Association’s Section of Labor and Employment Law, New York State Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association’s Section of Labor and Employment Law, New York County Lawyers Association and the National Employment Lawyers Association (NELA) of New York.
